Salem has played a major role in shaping the growth and development of the United States. The Salem Harbor previously was the major harbor in America. This historical seaport community was filled with ships that sailed all over the world bringing a wide variety of products. Hard to believe it was once the one of wealthiest places in America. If you walk the streets and see the enormous beautiful homes it will become quite obvious.

The key to Salem success was distribution. The ships used Salem as their drop off point for the products they brought back. Today Amazon does what Salem did years ago…distribution of products. As the ships got bigger and bigger, the waters in Salem Harbor became too shallow. In addition, there were far too many hazards. The above Lighthouse guides boats in and out of Salem Harbor.
