Ledyard Farm Stable 82 Walnut Road Wenham, MA. 01984

Ledyard Farm in Wenham, MA is one of the few equestrian centers remaining on the North Shore. It is a 175-acre property located very close to the center of town of Hamilton & Wenham. It became known for its cross-country course and event clinics.

Throughout the 20th century the property was own by Hilda and Frederick Ayer.

Currently it Ledyard Farm is run and managed by Oakwood Equine Management, which is operated by Ferial Johnson. Oakwood provides boarding, teaching, and horse care.

In 2006 Ledyard Farm began the construction of an indoor arena. It was completed in 2007.

It is hard to believe that this horse sanctuary sets back from the street extremely isolated from the regular car traffic on Walnut Road. The rolling fields blanketed with green grass provide a peacefulness that makes you simply stop and have your life slow down. The hidden valleys and numerous trails provide a welcome adventure for the horse lovers.

There are several turnouts for all the horses, which make for an ideal environment for the horses to graze. I could not help but wonder which horses go in which turnout. What a delightful setting to see several horses grazing on the green grass on the shadows from the tall pine trees.

Hamilton & Wenham are two very small towns that have this incredible gift and luxury. You would like to think there would a number of young children in these towns that have no desire to participate in the traditional sports and activities, but might surely be interested in learning how to ride a horse. One step further to compete in an event. With a facility such as Ledyard Farm right in the back yard, let’s hope they take advantage of it.
