Traveling with Multiple Couples

Sharing a Villa with another Couple

Couples often talk about renting a villa together to share a vacation. The discussions generally focus on lots of details such as what destination, when to go, and of course the price. They realize they can get a pretty amazing villa rental if the split the costs. Then the big decision is how much is each couple willing to spend. It can often get uncomfortable because some couples have higher budgets. It is a major challenge to meet each couples expectations.

Finding the best house to rent with couples

One criteria we suggest for couples when traveling together is to find rental properties that have parity with the bedrooms. If there is one master with the best view, furnishings, and space it could get ugly. They may say it is no big deal, but the “pillow talk” once arrived if the bedrooms do not have parity will focus on why the couple with the master bedroom is paying the same as the other couples?

Some solutions might be discussed include switching bedrooms during the stay. That is a true pain as it means the couple with the master will have to pack up all their items. Not a good idea! With so much inventory available in the market place the couples should select the a villa with parity with the bedrooms. Why create emotional stress if you don’t have to go down that road?

The best amenities for couples traveling together

When renting a villa, make sure to look closely at the bed size in each room. Always try to find equality in the beds. You will also see the term “ensuite bathrooms.” Each couple is going to want their own bedroom and their own bathroom with full amenities in each room. We often find there is a difference in a house that was built to be a rental and a house built for someone’s vacation home. A couple will often build a house to use as their vacations or retirement. They often want a “Master Bedroom” without considering they will want to rent the house to offset the cost. If you are building a home as an investment property, you’ll want to make all rooms equal with the same amenities. This will maximize your rental income.

How to deal with various room sizes

Be open and honest upfront. Share with each couple what the house has and split the cost up by room size. This way, upon arrival, there will be no “pillow talk” and everyone knows what to expect before they arrive.
