The President George Bush Compound in Kennebunkport, ME
Bush Compound Kennebunkport, ME
One of the best features of living in New England is driving up the coastline. There are fabulous roads that run along the seacoast where you will see some amazing classic homes hugging the shoreline often fully exposed to the elements.
The above photographs are of the oceanside home that George H.W. Bush (41) inherited from his parents. His son George W. Bush (43) spent many of his summers here as a kid. Interesting enough many famous world leaders actually visited the Bush Compound including Margaret Thatcher, Mikhail Gorbachev, Colin Powell, Nicholas Sarkozy, and get this …even Vladimir Putin!
The compound is located on a strip of land called Walker’s Point. It is about 30 miles north of Portsmouth, NH and 30 miles south of Portland, ME. George H.W. Bush’s grandfather purchased the property in the 1870’s. It was a park before he purchased it.
Not sure if the house gets used very much anymore, but I did see some large black SUVs. I assume the Secret Service was still patrolling the house.
Both of these photographs were taken from standing in the same spot. Big difference to use a zoom lens. This property represents an ideal situation to also use our drones, but my guess is the Secret Service would have shot it down. I was surprised not to see a Texas flag.
