Queerest Place in New England

The Narrow & Twisted Roads of Old Town Marblehead

Queerest Place in New England

In 1858 a journalist Robert Carter sailed into Marblehead. He wrote, “We went ashore to take a look at the town, which has always been reputed one of the queerest places in New England”. He found the streets as narrow and twisted as the inhabitants.

Old Town Marblehead

In the section of Marblehead called “Old Town” the streets are in fact narrow and twisted. The real estate agents are now taking full advantage of our capability to take aerial photographs and video. At Generating Media our drone pilots are licensed and registered by the FAA. With numerous years of flying drones around the globe, we comply with the laws and are respectful and sensitive to the neighborhoods.

The Neighborhoods of Marblehead

Before a potential buyer considers purchasing a home they have to first be sold on the city or town. The next part of the equation is the neighborhood. The last component is the actual property itself. Our recommendation is to provide the potential buyer photographs and videos of the entire package. Aerial photographs and videos present a very realistic and unfiltered perspective.

In reference to the narrow and twisted street of Marblehead in 1762 at a Town Meeting, it was voted to finally name all the streets and alley-ways in town. Some of the streets had been known by rather crude names. One of the core reasons the streets and alleys are so twisted built their homes anywhere that suited them provided they owned the land. There were no building codes to dictate which should be the front or back of the house.

What are potential real estate buyers looking for?

Potential buyers today are looking to purchase properties that are unique with lots of charm and character. Marblehead is filled with some historic homes that have unique stories and history. Prior to having Generating Media photograph and/or video a property, it would be extremely helpful if the real estate agent could provide some historical background on a property. This information could be part of the property description and we could focus on providing photographs and videos that bring the description to the viewer’s attention.
