History of the Marblehead Light House
One of the many well known key signatures to locals and visitors is the Marblehead Light House. We took this photograph in 2019 as it was a beautiful day. It is a fabulous location to visit year-round. Great place to picnic, or to relax.
It was first erected in 1835 after over years of discussion with the government about the location. The first light housekeeper was Ezekiel Darling, who was a quarter gunner on the Constitution. The only woman keeper on the coast named Jane C. Martin was the second. In 1895 the original structure was torn down and replaced by the higher, steel tower that stands today.
