Photographs & Videos - How Do They Make You Feel?
At Generating Media we try to publish photographs and videos that will stimulate emotions. When people share their emotions it helps them connect. If a photograph or video is shared it’s likely the other person will be similarly inspired. This helps deepen the connection and strengthening the relationship. It relates to both work and personal.
Photos Bring Emotions
Marketing messages are generally focused on information. But history will tell you information is not enough. We have discovered in any situation no matter what the topic, rather than simply bringing facts and features to the intended audience try focusing on feelings. The question we try to ask is what do we want the viewer of our photographs and videos to do after they see what we have published? If we target their emotions we’re more successful on motivating them to take action.
Engage the Emotions
The real estate community continues to try and find ways to promote or advocate for a particular town or city they have a listing. The agents all know the town has to sell itself first before the property will sell. Over and over again we read about the quality of the school systems, tax rates, and proximity to restaurants & stores. These are all important factors, but they do not engage the emotions or desires to live in the town.
Over the past month we have all watched the news of people waiting in long lines waiting to cast their votes. Not exactly a pleasant experience that brings out our positive emotions or desires to go vote. In some communities and towns there have been very limited locations, which have made it even more challenging. In the some cities sport complexes actually were converted to voting stations. Not exactly a stimulating atmosphere, but at least it was a great solution to a major challenge.
Voting in Marblehead
Our experience in voting in the Town of Marblehead brought on a very inspiring emotional connection not just with the voting process, but the entire luxury of having the privilege of voting. It was also one of the key factors in why we feel so fortunate to live in Marblehead. The voting process actually moved us. It is this type of arousal that has activated us to want to share and talk about our experience.
The Town of Marblehead played a major role in the founding of America. Thousands of people lost their lives to fight for our right to walk into a building a place our vote. Our experience of walking through the streets that have maintained dozen of historical homes and buildings was a reminder of how important it was for us to place our vote.
The Marblehead Town Officials could not have made the process easier or positive. They set up an early voting location at a recently restored building called Abbott Hall. This amazing building can virtually be seen from anywhere around the downtown area as it massive tower stands tall. The officials blocked off special parking for people looking to vote. The front entrance was clearly marked. As we walked into the hall the spirit and personality of the building totally engaged our emotions. Immediately we felt a part of the process and that our votes were going to matter. There was yellow tape that directed us up to the second floor where we were greeted and checked in. The instructions were explained very clearly. Off to the vote booths we went and filled out the voting document. Once completed we were directed to place our document into the correct slot. The entire process from start to finish took less than five minutes.
Our emotions were elevated to another level when we reminded ourselves that the famous painting Spirit of 76 was hanging in the walls of the Abbott Hall. Now democracy can often be painful and ugly as we all know too well from the election of 2020, but voting in the environment of Abbott Hall gave us a sense of peace and harmony would prevail.
