The Neighborhoods of St. Barts

The island of St. Barts has basically 15 different neighborhoods. St. Barts is only nine square miles in size. Each neighborhood was defined by the mountainous landscape. Some have beaches, a perfect harbor, or interior French charm.

The above photograph is from the hilltop of St. Jean. Off in the distance is St. Jean Beach and the famous Eden Rock Hotel. The beach is great because there is a reef that protects it so the waves don’t get too big. Plus there are restaurants and hotels up and down the beach. The St. Jean neighborhood is one of the most popular neighborhoods to rent a property because of its great views, proximity to the beaches, and proximity to downtown Gustavia. The challenge is the villas are generally packed on top of one another.

Which car should I rent in St. Barts?

When the Smart Cars first came out to rent on St. Barts they were quite popular. They were fun to drive and finding a parking space was generally not a problem. Trouble is the Smart Cars often had trouble getting up the steep hill of St. Jean. You would find guests pushing the cars up the hill! However, these cars have become more powerful over the years and are the perfect car to zip around the island. Just make sure you don’t have too much luggage! You can even rent them in electric and it feels like a go-kart.
