Report of the Condition of St. Martin/St. Maarten After Hurricane Irma September 2017

In September 2017, a powerful hurricane hit the island of St. Martin/St. Maarten especially hard. There was mass destruction throughout the entire island. Some sections were hit harder than others, but all the same, it was a very nasty hurricane.

Thousands of visitors had made plans weeks, months and even years in advance to visit the island. The struggle was gather accurate information regarding the condition of the island after the hurricane hit. The tourism offices were very selective about the information that was released out of fear visitors would cancel. There was a real thirst for honest content.

Our key member of the Generating Media Team, Phil Brown, believed it was imperative to provide people with unfiltered truth. His attitude was visitors needed to make informed decisions based on actual facts and not some deceiving content. He felt it was important to continue to earn the visitors trust long term to provide them with realistic information and then let them make the their own decision.
