7 Bellflower Street Unit 1 Dorchester, MA 2 Bedroom Condo For Sale

We were asked to photograph a new real estate listing of a “triple decker” on 7 Bellflower Street, Unit 1 in Dorchester, Ma. It is always fascinating to be introduced to a type of property that we’ve driven by thousands of times, but never been inside.

Prior to doing the photo shoot, we thought we should do a little homework regarding the history of a “triple-decker” property. Our research informed us that in the United States, a triple decker, is a three-story apartment building. Each floor was generally a single apartment that housed extended families, who all lived on all three floors.

Thousands and thousands of these were built in the late 19th and 20 centuries. This was done mostly in New England. They were built as a means to house the thousands of newly arrived immigrant workers that worked in the factories. The equation made lots of economic sense and it would be wise if we could all learn from it today as there continues to be a housing shortage. The overall cost of the land, roof, etc was distributed among all the floors.

The data indicates by 1920, the city of Boston there were 15,000 triple deckers. Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Jamaica Plain became popular for the middle class as public transportation expanded. Most recently there is a new wave of triple deckers in Boston as alternative to the townhouse style or apartment buildings.

We were delighted to see this listing on a one way street lined with triple decker properties. The neighborhood was going through some nice remodeling as several of the properties were being given a “make-over”. It was plain to see there were some owners that were making some nice improvements.

There was a main entrance door for all three units. We were taking photographs of the first floor unit. It is always a mystery what is going to be on the inside. As you will soon discover, you will be pleasantly surprised. You immediately walk into a living & dinning room combination. Right away the very high ceilings make quite the impression as the room seems so spacious. The oversized windows allow lots of natural light, the soft colored walls with the white trim, and the white ceilings with molding just make for a wonderful presentation. Add all these features to the beautiful hardwood floors and you will feel very welcome.

The kitchen with its hardwood cabinets, granite counter tops, stainless steel refrigerator and dishwasher, and gas stove create a very nice space. The added touches of hardwood floors, molding, and cabinet lights lets you know the previous owners paid attention to details. The high ceilings once again provide a great feeling of space.

We have to applaud both the owners and the real estate agent for all their work in preparing this property for the real estate market. Everything was clean and tidy. Not a lot of personal non-sense lying around and cluttering up the unit. When you see a property that is clean and I mean clean… it speaks volumes about the quality of the owners.

There are two bedrooms and one full bathroom. The features throughout the unit of having high ceilings, shinny hard wood floors, oversized windows, neutral colored walls, and crown molding make the rooms so inviting and warm.

The one full bathroom was spotless. Everything sparkled. Anyone would feel quite at ease with this bathroom.

Right off the entrance door was this unique space. Some imagination and creativity went into this use of space that includes desk and shelving. For those looking for a nice space to work from home, this just might do the trick.

Backyard includes a patio and large fenced in yard that would be a safe section for children to play or give a dog some place to be outside.

The map clearly shows the proximity to downtown Boston, airport, and major highways.

It was obvious from witnessing Jennifer Mangini, who is the real estate agent responsible for the listing, that she had established a positive working relationship with the owners. Once again, she had a trusting relationship with owners that is so important. Her intentions were to put the property in the best position to sell at fair and reasonable price and in the shortest period of time. What a pleasure it is for us to be an extension of her promotional efforts.
