Castle Brattahlid - Crocker Park Lane - Marblehead, MA

Castle Brattahlid is now known as Herreshoff Castle. It is located on Crocker Park Lane in Marblehead, MA. It was built in 1927 by a Marblehead artist Waldo Ballard and his wife Joan Ballard. Apparently, the design was from Erik the Red’s castle at Brattahlid in Greenland.

In 1945 the Ballards sold the castle to L. Frances Herreshoff, who was the son of a yacht designer Nathanael Greene Herreshoff. After Herreshoff died Muriel M. Vaughn lived in the castle. She was the secretary of Herreshoff. Interesting enough she was the sole beneficiary of his estate.

The daughter of Muriel, Elizabeth Vaughn, inherited the castle when Muriel died. In 1990, she sold the castle to Michael Horton Rubino, who was born in Marblehead. There has been some renovations.
