St. Barts, French West Indies

St. Barts has been marketing itself since the early 1970s. The island is written about and photographed in a long list of media publications. The general consumer has a clear definition of what the island is like in all regards. The marketing efforts are not about selling the destination rather when to go and where to stay. We best describe St. Barts as having a very high social currency. Guests enjoy talking about the idea they are planning to go to St. Barts and when they return they want to share with their friends and contents they were there. Their message becomes naturally contagious and evokes some sort of emotion. Emotions do get shared. St. Barts is now advertising itself and residue from sharing sticks long after the guests have returned. This explains why St. Barts has one of the highest percentages of repeat guests of all destinations.
